Letter of Recommendation Example for Admission to a PsyD program in Psychology

To Whom It May Concern,

My name is Taimara Alfonso Martinez and I am a board-certified behavior analyst practicing in Miami. I am originally from Cuba and now very much part of the Cuban diaspora community in Miami. This helps to explain why getting to know my friend and colleague Claudia Cedeno was such a joy, since she is also Cuban and we share many cultural aspects of our daily lives. I admire Claudia’s dedication to Psychology and the way that she has such a comprehensive, insightful, and creative grasp over the mental health issues and needs of the Cuban community in Miami.

I was Claudia’s supervisor for more than two years and we often worked closely together. I had the opportunity and pleasure to get to know her well and always admired her dedication to the needs of the clients with whom we were working at the time. I could not recommend Claudia more highly for admission to a PsyD program and could not feel more assured that she will distinguish herself and prove to be a great asset to the institution fortunate to bring her on board.

We have known each other for almost three years. Over the course of most of that time we were collaborating in the care of one or more of three patients. We began by talking about our clients, brainstorming, and then often would cover broader themes in our discussion. Our clients were between 3 and 10 years old, two were diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and one of them was diagnosed with a developmental delay.

The experience that Claudia acquired during her time working as a registered behavior technician will help her to hit the ground running in your PsyD degree program and go on to distinguish herself as a student and practitioner. She also now has significant experience working with children with problematic behaviors such as self-injury, property destruction, elopement, etc. – as well as an advanced understanding of non-verbal children.

Claudia has had the opportunity to work very closely with parents as well as other professionals providing training and feedback; and she now has valuable experience collecting data and completing monthly reports. She has become a master at balancing work and school and managed to succeed at both. Highly responsible and punctual, she speaks with increasing eloquence for those who cannot do so for themselves. One of the three clients that we shared was three years old and did not speak when we began, by the time Claudia finished working with him he managed to communicate with his family and teachers at school. It would be an honor and a pleasure to provide you with any additional information concerning Claudia’s application to study toward the PsyD Degree.

Sincerely,
