Driven by personal history and cultural shock upon moving to Dubai, the author seeks to combat corporal punishment through family therapy. Now 27 years old, I am pleased that, while I was born in Chicago, my parents took me back to Mexico at the age of two and we stayed there until I turned eight, before moving back to Illinois. This not only facilitated my becoming completely bilingual but also completely bicultural, as Mexican as I am American, and this is central to my professional identity and aspirations.
